About the Virtual Urgent Care Clinic

The North West Region Virtual Care Clinic collaborates with healthcare providers to ensure that patients who have minor health issues and do not have a primary care provider or access to one in a timely manner can access timely and efficient care. The clinic provides remote consultations, treatments and referrals, making healthcare more accessible and convenient for everyone across Northwest Ontario.

Who we Serve

The Ontario Health North West region spans from Kenora to Manitouwadge and Thunder Bay to Fort Severn. We serve patients throughout the region, who require timely medical care. Examples of those we care for include:

  • Individuals who have non-life threatening minor health issues.
  • Must be physically located in Ontario during the virtual visit.
  • Who do not have a primary care provider.
  • Who are unable to get a timely appointment.

Virtual vs In-Person Care

We can help with certain health issues online, but some health issues are better treated in person. Your health is very important to us! If we think you need to see a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or doctor face-to-face, the NP might suggest you go to a clinic or the hospital.

Here’s a list of health problems we can help in a virtual setting, and ones we can’t:

Appropriate for Virtual Care

If you are experiencing the following conditions, a virtual care appointment may be suitable:

  • Urinary tract infection
  • Sinus infection
  • Sore throat
  • Stomach ache
  • Mild-Moderate headache
  • Minor skin problems such as rash
  • Sexual health
  • Prescription refill
  • Conditions monitored with home devices and/or lab tests
  • Review of test results
Not Appropriate for Virtual Care

For the following health issues, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital emergency room:

  • Chest pain
  • Sudden and severe difficulty breathing
  • Sudden and severe decline or loss of vision/hearing
  • Sudden extreme weakness or numbness
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Refill for controlled substances (such as narcotics, opoids, stimulants, sedatives)
  • Reduced level of consciousness
  • Baby with fever more than 3 days
